Recommended Books for Becoming Anti-Racist

So You Want to Talk About Race by Seattle author Ijeoma Oluo is a great place for adults to begin.  Newberg FUMC’s Church Council has covenanted to read this book together. 

White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo was one of the most commonly-used books by predominantly-white churches last year.  It is written by a white author for a white audience.  There is a study guide available for small group leaders interested in leading guided discussions.    

God’s Dream by South African theologian Archbishop Desmond Tutu is a delightful celebration of diversity and harmony for very young children.  The illustrations include representations of children around the world.    

This Book is Anti-Racist by bi-racial educator Tiffany Jewell is a guidebook for teens to take action against racism.  There is an official companion journal available with 50 activities to support your youth’s journey to becoming anti-racist.  Newberg FUMC youth will use this resource during some W.O.W discussions.
